Hatching Tortoises Every where

Well, since number one (aka Red, due to the nail varnish id blob) hatched, the babies have continued to appear, slowly but steadily.  Today Purple, or number 3 hatched and I was there as she launched out of her egg.  I do have lots of crafty makes to show you, but for now I will stick with photo's of tortoises hatching as they really are dominating my thoughts, time, dreams and anxieties at the moment.  Number four has started it's journey leaving one more and the twin egg....

I have added the below picture to show you the tortoises tummy (plastron) when it hatches.  It is important that it soaks up it's yolk fully as it contains important life giving nutrients.  It soaks up the yolk through it's stomach and then the shell seals over completely.  I don't think the picture is gruesome, but I thought I would let you know it was coming.  You can also see that the tortoise is still slight folded, they are folded in the egg.

Best Wishes to you all.
